The Snack Factor Diet is a diet book based on the premise that eating less causes fatigue rather than weight loss. Keri Glassman suggests that snacking, when you're hungry, will give you more energy, help you feel better and lose weight. Her diet recipes provide the sweet, crunchy, salty snacks that dieters crave.

The Snack Factor Diet is helpful, well-organized and easy-to-read. Foods recommended by brand are American, so readers outside the U.S. will have trouble finding items like True Lemon travel packets, Fage yogurt, Kashi Good Friends Cereal, Vitalicious Brownies, Glenny's Chips and Han's All Natural products. Of course, Glassman recommends the KeriBars manufactured by her company.

Numerous tables itemize heart-healthy fats, meal plans, diet menus, party drinks and other nutrition-related items. There are also lists for portion-size, high-calcium snacks and ethnic food diet tips. Questions and answers deal with excuses for not sticking with your diet and how to determine your Hunger Quotient.

The appendix contains a food journal, a food planner and a grocery list of recommended diet foods.

Factor This! sidebars add tips and explanations on items like leptin, fiber, pasta, nutrient-dense foods, meat substitutes, portion size and food supplements.

There are more diet tips than recipes in this 244-page book. They include diet traps, binge eating triggers and healthy advice for weight loss, such as drinking fluids, managing stress, exercising often and getting enough sleep.

Cheesy eggwich. Smoked salmon sandwich. Western omelet. Chef's salad. Chopped salad with tofu and soy. Simple grilled chicken salad. Broiled tilapia. Roast pork tenderloin. Veggie burger.
