This collection of 100 new heart healthy recipes features low fat recipes made with healthy fats, high fiber recipes, DASH diet recipes to decrease blood pressure and advice on portion sizes. Bonnie Stern also includes more than 300 updated heart healthy dishes from the HeartSmart cooking series.

Each heart healthy recipe has clear instructions, with ingredients listed in both imperial and metric measurements. Heart Smart: The Best of Heart Smart Cooking includes a nutritional analysis of each delicious recipe, listing calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals for each serving.

Sidebars add information about ingredients and cooking techniques. One, for example, discusses Thai curry pastes. Bonnie Stern explains the differences between red curry and green curry. (Red curry is based on spices, while green curry is based on herbs.)

In another sidebar, Bonnie Stern provides a recipe for East Indian curry powder. She explains that Indian curry paste is better than curry powder, because the spices are roasted in oil, eliminating the dry, raw spice taste.
